National Traffic System

SECTION NETS

Virginia participates in the ARRL's National Traffic System.  If you would like to help pass traffic, you are welcome to join us.  The various Section-wide NTS HF nets are listed below.  Please report any errors to K3EP.

NOTE 1 - Virginia Digital Net (VDN) meets Monday through Friday at 1915 local time, on 3578.5 kHz, USB, 1300 Hz audio offset, using Chip64. All are welcome. IZ8BLY's Chip 64 software is available as a free download at http://xoomer.alice.it/aporcino  

Chip64 Operating Tips:

1. A "Quick and Dirty Unofficial Help File for Nino IZ8BLY's Chip 64 Software" can be found here.

2. If you're using a newer multi-core or hyperthreading CPU, make sure the Mode / Fix CPU Hyperthreading menu item is checked.

3. When using the program neither RIT nor AFC should be used.

4. For those rigs that use only lower-sideband (LSB) on 80 meters, look for VDN around 3581.1 kHz, and left-click on the center of the signal on the waterfall. When you can print the NCS, usually the NCS will print your signal when you transmit. Use Chip64 as you would use PSK31.

5. If the software crashes at times, Rich, W4NMH suggests the following: On the desktop, right-click the icon for Chip64. Select Properties / Compatibility Mode / "Run this program in compatibility mode for" Windows 98 / Windows ME.

6. When you want to copy material from the Chip 64 receive buffer, do the following:
   a) Shut down the Chip 64 receiver using the large green button in the upper left corner of the screen or the Ctrl-R key combination.
   b) Highlight the material to be copied.
   c) Use the key sequence Ctrl-Ins to copy the text to the clip board. [Note the common Windows Ctrl-C copy key sequence does not work - use Ctrl-Ins]
   d) Paste the results into Notepad or another file.
   e) Restart the Chip 64 receiver with the large green button or Ctrl-R.
