Comments:
January was a fairly quiet month around the Section. Despite that, a number of noteworthy events and activities took place. In District 14, a 12 member SET provided support for 3 dog teams running the Virginia Creeper Trail. In addition to pulling simulated emergency supplies, the dogs also pulled an APRS tracker. The event resulted in both TV and newspaper coverage for ARES.
In District 12, ARES again participated in the Virginia Special Olympics Statewide Skiing event held at Wintergreen Resort. WA4RTS and the District 12 ARES members have supported this event for close to 25 years and many thanks go out to this group for the dedication and continuity of their participation.
N3GQ, DEC of District 4 and EC of Stafford County, attended the annual Stafford County dinner where he presented a Certificate of Appreciation to County officials. Bart reports that those officials were very pleased and Bart’s initiative could be a lesson for the rest of us in the Section. Showing those in Emergency Management that we understand their support of our efforts and activities can do much to further positive, cooperative relationships.
District 3 welcomes WW4GW, EC of Buckingham and Cumberland Counties, as part of D03. Gordon has been a valuable adjunct to the D03 leadership team and the entire D03 group looks forward to working with him now as a full partner.
District 2 has been involved in the planning of several large upcoming PS events and we look forward to future reports on those events. In addition to the items noted above, there were many reports of plans for training sessions, meetings that took place with Emergency Management, new projects and activities from all around the Section. Many thanks to all the members of the ARRL Field Organization in the VA Section for all your past efforts, thanks also for submitting your reports and keeping the rest of us up to date on what’s happening in your jurisdictions. I look forward to a productive and fun 2007 as we work together to further ARES in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
